The below comment should not be taken as an attack, rather as an argumentation for truth. Although I do believe Islam as an empire and even as a religion/spiritual message has helped bridging many civilizations and inspired some light for many people, I do believe the way its histoy is taught in muslim countries is exactly the same as the history of christianity or judaism when taught to the believers: biased and/or filtered to only underline the victorious and beautiful parts of it.
Islamists know that moulding societies takes time and they already won many media battles with their presence and preseverance. One of them, not the biggest nor the least, is imposing the image that a muslim woman needs necessarly to wear a hidjab/veil to be a "real" mulsima(which marginalizes even more women who don't wear it inside those uniformized societies). They also reached that point of imposing their only view of reading history(swapping a fantasy of history to the one that really took place with sweat, blood and proselytism). Not that I am attacking but if one chooses words to represent reality we all know choosing concepts could mislead us to false interpretations. Historians shoudn't interpret history but tell it as it happened And so should do the actors of that History if they had a chance to speak. Whilst we should not expect that honesty and clarity from ideologically minded clerics who think they have the right to reread it and present their view of it to the people as the only view possible. This,of course, restricts openess and of course the clerics and ideologists prefer the believers to read their version of history and not the history of religions the way genuine specialists wrote about and the way people should be invited to learn about.
A few years ago Algerians felt attacked by France when a few french politicians wanted to impose in french schools a reading of history that praised colonialism(l'apport positif du colonialisme). Forutnately a few genuine and honest historians battled back and said it clearly that history should not be left to politicians. I honestly do believe history should not be left to politicians but neither should it be left to clerics and ideologists. I also viewed a video by the reknown Yasmina Khadra who, in front of a french entertainer, depicted muslim "foutouhates" as magnificent. Again choosing the word foutouhates instead of invasion is an ideological reading of history although we could have expected a better openess and distance from that writer. This againt takes us back to what had been deeply sowed in us in schools and societies: we are the best of the best!!!.
The same when Qaradawi decides to somehow justify suicide bombers(el intihariyyoun) by saying that "WE should not call their act a "suicide" because it's an act commited for a noble cause". Although killing oneself is a called suicide by definition independently from why, where and when,all the rest being a matter of interpretation(psychological, social, professioonal, political etc), but the fact remains exactly the same: one killed himself.
Ideologically minded people deny even linguistics when it does not fit their needs.

يظهر انه شخص وصولي يريد الوصول الى السلطة انه دخل الانتخابات وصرف الملايين الدولارات وكان مسوول مكتب انتخاباته نفس الشخص الذي اوصل اوباما الى السلطة في امريكا فاين له هذه الملايين من الدولارات ومن اي دولة؟ هل السعودية ام الامارات ام اسرائيل ام امريكا؟ انه شخص مشبوه جدا ولا احد يدري من اين يمول حملات انتخابه الفاشله فليقل يوما عن مصدر ثراءه وامواله ولماذا نحن نكد ليلا ونهارا حتى لا نبقى جوعانين فمن اين ياتون الهولاء بالمبالغ الطائلة بدون كد وعمل؟

eldjoudhi, i very much like your comment about idoelogically minded people interpretations of history and i Love the comment that history should not be left to politicians! that is sooo true!

and one more thing: people who write history as it happens write it from their perspectives, some historians do that as well, but true historians try to look thru the bias and try to interpret what it really was,
