Matt Krizan was paddling his kayak in the lagoon east of the Maverick's reef on January 22, 2011, when he saw a body floating in the surf. Krizan paddled over & was able to get the attention of jet skiier Russell Ord who navigated through the white water to help save Jacob Trettes life.

hes so lucky. I have been in the water surfing during 4 swimmers draged out in a rip. One drowned. I was right there but had no idea anyone was even in trouble. The beach is patrolled and the lifeguards didn't even notice. It's made me see that at the end of the day the only person you can count onto look after you in the water is yourself.

Awesome job Matt. you are a reason Jacob is alive today, and his son will have a dad. You being there, the radio you had, the signals you made.... was no accident you being there man. celebrate the good. I was there that day. spoke with you on the beach as the helicopter was taking him to the hospital. You, and so many people were doing their best, and the result was blessed.
