This is a beginner's guide for how to solve the Rubik's cube. No prior knowledge of the cube is necessary. If you get stuck on a step, watch the video step again and read the guide below. If you're still stuck, please ask me for help!

STEP 1: Fix the orientations of all edges (make them all "good").

To find out if an edge is "bad" or "good":
1. If the edge is not in the middle layer, turn the face containing it (NOT the blue or green face) to place the edge in the middle layer.
2. IGNORE the blue/green sticker on the edge piece (if one exists).
3. Look at the centre next to the non-blue/green sticker on the edge. If the edge sticker and centre are the same or opposite color, the edge is GOOD; otherwise, it is BAD.

To fix 2 bad edges on the front face (one on top, one on the side in an "L" shape), do UR RU UR. Fix all bad edges which you can find until there are none left. Remember, do not turn the blue or green side unless you are converting edges!

STEP 2: Solve a blue cross on top.

Find an edge piece with a blue sticker, match it with one of its centres, then match it with the blue centre. Repeat until the cross is done. Remember not to turn the top or bottom sides (blue/green)!

STEP 3: Solve a green cross on the bottom.

Find an edge with a green sticker, and place it on the opposite side of its respective blue cross edge, forming a "line". Turn the line so the blue sticker is on top again, and fix any other lines which you turned. Repeat.

STEP 4: Solve the remaining edges.

Count how many are incorrectly positioned, and see which case you have below:

4 unsolved edges-
double turn any 2 adjacent faces (EXCEPT blue/green) until at least one edge becomes solved.

2 unsolved edges (not same face) or 3 unsolved edges-
Double turn two adjacent faces which contain all of the unsolved edges.

2 unsolved edges (same face)-
If the unsolved edge pieces are in the SAME face, hold the edges so both are in the front face, then repeat RD F2 until they become solved.

STEP 5: Solve the top 4 corners.

1. Find a corner on the bottom with a blue sticker. Find its appropriate spot on top, and rotate the bottom so that the corner is under that spot. Hold the corner and slot on the right side, and do:
RU UL LU UR
RD UL LD UR
This algorithm cycles the bottom-left corner, bottom-right corner, and top-right corner in a counterclockwise fashion. Keep positioning top layer corners until they are all in place.

2. Orient all top layer corners. You use this algorithm to flip the top-front corners:
BR RU BL RD
BR RU BL RD
FR
RU BR RD BL
RU BR RD BL
FL
This algorithm flips the right corner clockwise and the left one counterclockwise. Orient the cube in a way that will flip corners correctly!

STEP 6: Solve the remaining corners.

1. Turn the bottom layer so that all the edges are correctly positioned again (if they aren't already).

2. Cycle the corners into place using the algorithm from step 5.

3. Orient the corners, like in step 5.

  • what you used to lubricate ?

  • @GamingHolic I used vegetable oil. I've heard from my friend that OLIVE oil will ruin a cube, so avoid that!

  • @Esperantanaso

Where i live there is only availability of Cooking oil ? is that fine . If so how can i put that in rubiks cube

  • @GamingHolic Not sure if it's fine. If you want to try it, turn the top face 45 degrees, pop up one of the top edges with your thumb. Pour in oil; a quarter teaspoon works for me. Push the edge back in, twist the cube around to distribute oil.
