Very near Santa Barbara is a small town with a Danish flair. Check it out!

I tried YouTube's audio swap feature. It took many views to choose a song this time. I think it is a great feature, although it would be nice to loop music so you are not limited to a song that is longer than the length of the video. This limits one's choice considerably given the current catalogue.

Also, they have a category of music called "World" but mostly it includes Celtic songs. I would have liked to find a Danish instrumental piece to accompany my video.

Another irritation is that the song I picked (Burke and O'Domhnaill's "The Rolling Waves") is listed as having a lengh of 6:14. My video is 4:45. Riddle me this: why does the music stop just before the end of the video? Do you think I should try to find another?

By the way, the birds that you see about 3/4 of the way into the video (3:17) are thought of to be good luck in Danish culture.

  • doesn't look Danish. Like AndreasDammand said, it looks more Dutch, or Austrian. But it DOES look like a cozy little place. I had to laugh about the fact that there was a plack there that told the story of Gorm the Old (Gorm den Gamle) though. Hah.

  • Thanks for letting me know! Why is it funny to have the story of Gorm the Old?

  • Haha.. Typical american

  • Interesting. How so?

  • Sorry, auto correct on my iPad made solvang into solving. Anyway, you get what I mean.

  • -sigh- you people don't understand anything, you all keep saying it looks like Denmark in the 1800's. That's because solving was settled by danes in the 1800's. Don't be so stuck up, it's a Danish town settled by Danish people, if you think it has no Danish spark in it, then your just naieve.

  • im danish and i dont recognize any of this as danish. even the music is irish and the buildings are in austrian style? sorry but thats really wrong. there are no wooden churches in denmark. solvang is really fucked up.but im glad its there its a good idea. and i hope to come someday

  • My wife and I were there just a few weekends back and had a great time. It is quaint, unique and (I assume) very Danish. Not like other American towns. It is placed in a beautiful setting with many cool wineries around. This town was introduced to Americans from the movie "Sideways" (2005) which we enjoyed very much. So we had dinner at the Hitching Post one night and the next night we enjoyed a wonderful evening at Root 246...the best restaurant in town. It is a great weekend getaway.

  • Yea... I'm Danish but I have never been to either Denmark nor Solvang but I am planning on going to both soon. In my opinion it shouldn't have all those windmills, that is the Dutch thing and if you really wanted it to be more Danish it should have more bikes not cars :P. Denmark has a HUGE biking population.

  • Solvang, unfortunately, lost it uniqueness and charm years ago.

  • where are all the vikings at??

  • i don't see any birds at 3:17 :S?

It looks fun.. i wanna go there and flash my danish'ness xD

  • Chek these crazy solvang parties on my channel

  • Your right though, there might be some Dutch and German in the architecture aswell. But certainly also danish looking houses of that time period.
