No, you cant do that. You have to hook it up to a router, modem or a phone line. I'd suggest buying a long ethernet chord

(on vista dunno about XP)If you have a laptop with wifi just plug the enthernet cable into that computer (so the xbox is connected to the computer via ethernet cord)then setup a bridge connection Start>Control Panel>Network & Internet>Network and Sharing Network>On the left theres MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTION option NOT NETWORK (2nd from bottom)should be 2 connections your wireless and LAN>Highlight both and right click and select CONNECT A BRIDGE or something like that if you have any problems PM

When I connected my ethernet cord to my 360, the xbox would turn on, but the TV was static and everything was plugged in. Do u know why this happened?
