  • I have the Claudio Abbado version (shostakovish orch.) of this with Stravinsky's ending. I have to say, Khovan has some of Moussourgsky's most beautiful melodies...such masterful musical ideas, a pity this was never orchestrated by the man himself. I have so much respect for M. Moussorgsky

    thank you for the comment.

Justr saw Boris Godunov in the Bolshoi, in a new production with Mussorgskiy original version.

Sometimes it was hard to velieve that it was written in 1872... There are so many modern ideas and effects.

the man was totaly geniuos, but unfortunately an alcoholist as well...

  • Wow, very very awesome. I'm from USA, don't have time right now to go enjoy opera in the Western world.. I have Abbado's version of Boris Godunov with M.M.'s original orchestration from 1874. I read that the Mariinsky actually rejected Boris Godunov when it was first performed and underpaid Moussourgsky for the work. Have you listened to Moussorgsky's songs? I have almost all of them on recording. They are all very good as well.

  • @dalecampbl9

Well, I'm actually learning some of them at the moment :)

  • Listen this part till the end. This is one of the most wonderful choir scenes!

    Start's about 7:50

  • thank you

  • That's Vitaly Vlasov, a superb character tenor.

  • This is the Rimsky version. The peasant scene doesn't appear here. It was composed by (I think) Shostakovich for the Vera Stroyeva film.

  • I really like the scribbler's voice

  • It's cut... A part in which peasants "persuade" the scribe to read a proclamation was completely omitted...
