  • Kubrick should of won this. He translated one of the most bewildering novels of the 20th century into nothing short than a masterpiece. What a joke the oscars were that year.

  • As good as french conection was , its nothing compared to clockwork orange and its legacy but cc was just to controversial if the acadamy actualy gave awards to best film Kubrick wuld got 3 oscars that day

  • Ernest Tidyman is my grandfather.

  • This dude could have played Charnier!

  • why didn't Stanley Kubrick win!!! i am soo mad!!

  • THE FRENCH CONNECTION was a very good film, but A CLOCKWORK ORANGE should have won. Kubrick's work was bold, audacious, and visionary. The film still isn't consistently understood to this day, but it deserved the award.

  • Tennessee stole the show!!!!

  • @Jellyfish60 Clockwork Orange never had a chance. Good as it was (and stll is), it was too controversial to be given any prizes by the Academy. The nominations were the prize. And I think French Connection is a great film.

  • Oh my goodness...that is one man I wish I could have met. Tennessee seemed like such a character!

And congrats to Mr. Tidyman for such a succinct speech! Good one!

  • Not sure how this could have won against Clockwork Orange...
