Standard Gravity is an existing project of mine that until today pure image thresholding to determine where people are standing. I bought a new Kinect sensor this afternoon, and immediately set about adapting this code to use the new sensor.

It is simply an amazing device.

Thank you, FKeel1. In case it wasn't clear, this is a revision of a project that *was* done with a webcam (actually, with Point Grey computer vision cameras) and shadow occlusion. I "upgraded" the project to use the kinect on the day the openkinect drivers were functioning.

Where can I find the code for this - assuming you've made it available?

But I have seen Kinect's hardware specs, and they look pretty weak compared to some of the USB Webcams I have seen these days.

    Hi Eric,

Such a great device... I'm just now learning about OpenKinect and the functionality so please forgive me if this is too forward. I'm working on an installation for an upcoming art event and trying to figure out how to do a similar interaction, but with pouring water. Do you share your work or ever help out creating for such endeavors?

    Cheers,

    Alex

of course you can do it with a webcam. the point is just that a kinect makes it so easy to do all this stuff. what is kinect if not a glorified webcam?

    its fun thats all :-)

nice project. i think its really neat.

really? where's the video of the 12 year old doing it with a standard webcam? stop hating. it's an interesting proof of concept, and cool art besides.

not that precise...you could have used more advanced segmentation or blobbing techniques....this is not really cool, a 12 year old kid can do that with a standard webcam, wouldnt need a kinect for that..nice haircut, though
