Gordon Project

Donlon Ward, Artisan/Builder, donlonward.com, (626) 281-2811; For HD viewing, click on the screen 360p and scroll up to 720p or 1080p. This 1928 Altadena, Hacienda house by Architect, Kenneth A. Gordon, was featured in a 1929 Architectural Digest article. The property is situated directly above Eaton Canyon with spectacular views of the San Gabriel Mountains. The video begins with a new pedestrian entry that we created by cutting through the property wall and installing a wood-formed, concrete beam, wood and iron gate. Upon entering the property, a cobblestone walkway and steps lead to an upper tiled patio. Before and after photos depict the dramatic changes that we built. My intent was to remain faithful to the original architecture. In the rear yard, time lapse photos and designs show: construction of the pool, tiled spillway, all-tile spa, trellis, loggia w/stone and plaster fireplace and renovations of the attached pool house; post & beam trellis, sitting area, courtyard fountain with antique urn and antique mexican pottery, landscaping and landscape lighting, sconce reproductions, hillside restoration w/cobblestone steps, stone & boulder retaining walls and wood deck overlook the San Gabriel mountains and stream below. All tiles and pavers are handmade tile. We built retaining walls using onsite boulders and riverstones. The concrete pavers in the courtyard/fountain area have been aged. The iron gate and iron window details were made by Chris Hammock of Perfection Iron, who has since passed on. Enjoy the beauty!
