A music video about the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina, and George W. Bush.

LYRICS:

ALIBI LULLABY

Blood meets oil out on Prairie Chapel Road.
Not such a long walk a'tall.
Gold Star Mother wants what she is owed:
Why did her baby have to fall?

Alibi lullaby—
Who's balancing our lives
as the President bikes by?

Piety Street is one block over from Desire.
Not such a long walk a'tall.
Oil and bayou water flood and catch on fire.
See profits writing on the wall.

Alibi lullaby—
If you are somewhere else
you won't have to die.

Alibi lullaby—
Float off to dread
on a river of lies.

That way, that way madness lies.
Love lies bleeding in the garden
Lie down with the dogs; rise up with the fleas.
Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.

Over there the market carries guns and seeds.
Not such a long walk a'tall.
Soul and bullet hook up: Death stampedes
wailing a wake-up call.

Alibi lullaby—
Take me to the river.
Let me cry.

Alibi lullaby—
Will the ole river ever stop rollin'
and run dry?

  • Nice. is there an English version?

  • Good job!

  • Woo Verandah 8D I love this song.

  • verandah poche is an amazing poet. the first time i heard this she sang it live at a a poetry reading and had the whole audience sing the refrain with her. it was awsome

  • This a stunning collage of images. I felt a slight disconnect between folk sound & the devastating impact of images -- may be why I had trouble hearing the words. I don't think it's a problem though. On the contrary, the music kept calling me back to the center, where compassion and moral commitment come from. You know, entheos. I wish someone would run your video on prime time tv. Try sending it to Oprah.

  • Really great work.

  • the video

    the music

    the singing

    the words WOW!

haunting and sad but beautifully done

    a song for this age

    the whole production is WOW!

  • Brilliant!

  • Musically this is a beautifully composed / put together piece.

The lyrics and images are moving and give everyone pause for thought. The irony of the smoothness of the music with the tragic subject matter makes it all the more intriguing. Kudos all round!

  • Brilliant! This song and clip just knocked the wind right out of me. The juxtaposition of the brilliance of this band, of the lyrics and of the montage with the pain of the images is startling. And of course our reality - the war, this government - is a constant slap upside the head. The music here is stunning and it is all very moving. Thank you.
