Read the full story at www.timesreview.com. The New York State Department of Transportation has kept its promise for motorists on the North Fork of Long Island's East End -- right on schedule. At about 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2009, drivers heading west out of Greenport on Route 25 were finally able to cross the new bridge over the Long Island Railroad tracks in Southold. Workers from Prosillico were still operating backhoes and other heavy equipment as drivers in the westbound lane of traffic got to enjoy the smooth ride -- and the long-hidden view to the north -- over the new span. The old bridge, built in the 1920s, is expected to be destroyed by the end of the summer.
