Cash Only

Artist Statement:
My vision for this piece was to explore the "old" concept of an economy; cash in hand pays for a product or service, not credit. I researched and found a local business that is thriving by using the cash only system. Shirley is part of what some would consider and underground economy in this day and age, even if she is not aware of it.
Aesthetically, I chose to begin the video with a news package style open (VO and stills), then juxtapose that with the more raw video of Shirley at her cash only bar/grill. The difference between the open and the body of the piece had the goal of grabbing the viewers attention. (The low lighting was a challenge and I wished we could have brought in a light kit for the interview, but circumstance did not allow).
