It is known that some if not most insurance policies are tricky and often try their best to deny a claim. As an employee, what can I do to protect my own benefits other than rely on insurance? Is the employer obligated to pay for all expenses occurred in case of its employees' injuries at work? What if someone is injured during a work trip in some dangerous places but outside his/ her 'official work time', say a hostage in the middle of the night?
One question came to mind after watching this informative video. If I were to perform CPR on somebody in Canada and broke their ribs, I am protected by Canada's Good Samaritan Law. But if I did the same in a foreign country, do I have to be aware of the liabilities I expose myself to if I were to perform any medical treatment on others?
Also, you mentioned med evacuation as one of the options, but how feasible is it cost-wise? in many developing countries , it may not even be available. what are the other alternatives in such cases?
