When Will You Come Back? w/ English Translation - Ros Sothea

A Cambodian oldies favorite from 60s-70s era.


One of the challenges to a good, accurate translation is to have a good understanding of the literary terms being used in the song. I confess: there are a lot of literay terms, i.e, pdone thear and thook thoe-mninch, that Mr. Samouth and Mrs. Sothea use that I have yet grasp . I must say this song presents quite a challenge because of that.

I prefer not to inject my interpretation into the song or paraphrase any part of it;however, I'm compel to break most of that rules here to try to provides what I believe to be helpful clues to what the song is about. I realize that this translation isn't as accurate as it can be, but, to non-Khmers, it might be helpful to understand what the song might be about. Yes, it would, if I toss away the transliteration...vil vinch and "come back" have two syllables, else "return" would be more effective. Thank you for your interest and input.
