A rare look at two male Western Diamondback rattlesnakes doing a "mating dance." This is actually a contest to see who will get to mate with the female, which is very close by, somewhere in the rocks. They don't really bite each other, but simply hold on and get better leverage to wrestle it out. After about four-minutes, the smaller snake lost and slithered off to find another date! Photographed by Arizona Gold Adventures prospectors, during a gold prospecting expedition near Rich Hill, Arizona, in the Weaver Mountain foothills of Central Arizona. Those are two male rattlers wrestling to win the mating preference of the female who is laying out of the way, but insight of the two males. You should have looked around for her, trust me, she was there...

Hey Terry,
Mel had me out today, showing me how to run the GB2 and we went right by the spot where these snakes were showing off! LOL He pointed out exactly where they were so I will probably pay close attention when I come back to hunt some more. It was such a beautiful gorgeous day today!!!
Bob was running some material we had dry-washed and had a good surprise for us when we got back! - a small picker and a bunch of color in the pan.. paul from TN
