Congressman Connie Mack (R-FL 14) questioned Special Assistant to the President for Manufacturing Policy Ron Bloom about his role in the General Motors and Chrysler bailouts. Mr. Bloom previously held a position as Special Assistant to the President of the United Steelworkers, prior to his role as a member of the Treasury Department. Congressman Mack asked Mr. Bloom a series of questions regarding remarks Bloom made in several speeches, in which Mr. Bloom referred to union tactics as "gaming the system" and in which Bloom quoted China's Mao Zedong. Mack also inquired about the nature of Mr. Bloom's selection to the task force designed to implement the GM bailout, and asked whether Bloom's prior work on behalf of unions should have disqualified him from heading those teams.
