One of the best days at Temple Meads I've encountered! Plenty of units and HSTs in and out allday but I left them alone.
I decided to catch a few voyagers on film including a great 2tone from 220028 in the new livery.
I filmed a few units including 153380 with a 2tone.
For a change I also filmed some HSTs The sets were, 43005+43003, 43009+43070 and 43004+43078. Also includes a start up from 43078.
Part of the excitement came from some 66s, 66070 working Portbury-Barton Hill, then 66070 returns from the shed with 66199 in tow, with a great 2tone. They then depart for Didcot with an even better 2tone although I was bowled by a Voyager!
Thanks to bathboysteve for the great day and supplying me with the photos of him and myself infront of HST Powercars.

  • 143617 sounds like an EMU! which is another thing that i don't get about BTM, a third electrified rail or overhead wires could give more services to the station and becouse they are electric not diesel, it would please all of the hippies out there, although if they did that, i would have to see the diesels still there becous4e they sound better!.

  • The 143s are brilliant machines. Well I guess it's easier said than done, but in 2012 they are looking to electrify the entire London-Bristol route with 3rd rail. Personally I reckon this is an awful decision of which I am disappointed in!

  • i would be dissapointed too, conidering that 158's and voyagers are my favourite trains but now i just don't understand why they would want to elctrify bristol - london, becouse we haven't got anything to do with the olympics to my knowledge, anyway my mind is changed, keep Bristol elctric free, or at least, temple meads!

  • I'm a big fan of both of them too! It would effectively wipe them out of the SouthWest. The reasoning is due to money, it would be a lot cheaper and eco friendly. After Temple Meads, they will continue down to Exeter then to Cardiff... It's not looking good i'm affraid!

  • 43009 isnt sounding too good. although its probably broken in more as it was the first mtu to enter service some years ago. great video!!! 5/5

  • Strangly enough, that's exactly what I said to my mate about 009! It was side by side with 004 (Ironicly) at one point and 009 sounded dredful! Thanks once again :)

  • @hstman14 A shame, but they will be put on other workings and new routes. The Sharpness line is set to be reopened soon to passengers (only freight services use it at the moment) so I guess that will be used by 143s or 153s from Gloucester and also the Marlborough to Savernake line is likely to go ahead with services to Andover (but services may be SWT controlled rather than ATW).

  • just brilliant! :D 5*

  • yay good vid 009 og im sure it was on fire too at didcot a while back? so we have our 1st fgw mtval kool

  • yeah it sounds like the tappets are a bit worn.not good for a newish engine huh. thanks :-)
