Your history lessons lack accuracy. First of all, Halloween was not the first slasher. If I am not much mistaken, Psycho was (in which case The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was second, and Halloween third).

One other thing. Jason didn't take the screen in 1980, Mrs. Voorhees did. Jason was only a nominal role in that film (though arguably the scariest moment in the film).
