This was shot in 89. We were horsing around in our 19 foot 1982 J Craft. The motor was a 1979 235 hp Johnson. The previous winter I rebuilt the motor...bored it .10 upped the compression slightly, lightened the pistons & balanced everything. I ported & polished the intake, Installed "2 stage" reed valves. I installed a foot throttle. I had a friend air brush the engine cover. We would use 2 different props...a 28 pitch for reg driving & a 21 for water sports. The engine ran amazing & the torque curve was awesome. She had plenty of power & it launched really hard. I could get it on plain just touching the throttle....but.... when it hit 3500 RPM it was like turning on a switch it went frikk'n nuts. Later that day the engine cover flew off & disintegrated in mid air. I found an evinrude 175hp cover that fit well. The next weekend I tried to pull up 4 water-skiers & pulled the pole right out of the boat....$%&#

  • are J-Craft's easy to drive because i'm looking at buying one but i'm new to speed boating

  • @mano266 ...very easy to drive, great for water sports...bad in rough water though.

  • @spiducci Thanks, thats what I thought. The only problem is the lake that we have our cottage on gets rough sometimes but I might still get one. How are they in 1-2 foot waves?

  • @mano266 ...not bad, it is still a flat bottom boat so it's rougher that a V hull.

  • whats the top speed? Thanks

  • @jayc888x ....If I can remember, the fastest I had it going was 77mph
