Occuring just once every 14 years, this National Geographic Wild Chronicles short is of the Rite of Passage Circumcision Ceremony in Joseph Lekuton's home village of Karare, Kenya. Joseph is the author of the young reader book "Facing the Lion: Growing Up Maasai on the African Savanna". @HateFilledLies It's becoming increasingly less common. I think less than half of babies now get circumcized in the US.

Isn't circumcision common in America? I always thought it was common place in the good ol' U.S. of A or am I misinformed.

We want to kill these people way of life to protect lions? doesnt sound fair to me. Dont get me wrong, i love animals and i would never kill a lion, but thats easy since killing lions is not a key part of my culture. I dont like the fact we cant or we dont want hard enough stopping people who brings way bigger devastation just for money and then we want to force this people to make his tradition "legends from past times". Are we out of our minds?

These people are ancient egyptian descendant. Continue on their ancient tradition since the beginning of time.

Genital mutilation is wrong, regardless of the ritual reason for it. Unlike babies, these young men know what is coming. What happens to those who choose not to be mutilated? Are they forced? Are they banished?

Whatever about anything else, I am so glad that I wasn't born into this culture, it's a culture where people have no freedom to decide for themselves, they are ruled by ancient customs and traditions which in my opinion have no place in the 21st century.
