Die wunderbare Mirella! Karajan hatte Partien von Ihr verlangt die eigentlich nicht ihr Fach waren, aber sie hat alles phänomenal geschafft. An Ihrer Seite Nicolai. Wie schön, das alles persönlich miterlebt zu haben!

@Orbazzano Esiste(va) un laser-disc, poi ristampato in dvd (Sony Classical) con l'integrale del Don Carlos di Karajan, prodotto dopo le recite del Festival.

Even if she was nervous or scared to death of singing Elisabetta in Don Carlo for Karajan, the results show a confident singer with a grand, beautiful voice. She had the right dramatic thrust and heft and lyricism for this role. She is also a good actress and she is one of the all time best Elisabettas in Don Carlo. Freni was a gifted singer and here she also proves to be quite modest. Brava Freni!

Reminds me so much of an interview with Lucia Popp. She said she almost died of fright on the train from Vienna to Salzburg, where she was to audition for Karajan. That was 1963, perhaps even in the same year as Mirella's experience that she describes here. Such wonderful modesty from such great artistes and ladies!

It is from a documentary memorizing Karajan,you kown 2008 is his 100 year birthday.And as far as I kown her Don Carlo at Salzburg is not available now.
