Ramadhan is a time for fasting and sharing. Remembering the blessings we sometimes take for granted.
This event was organised with the idea to share our evening dinner with the less fortunate. People were asked to bring whatever food they can and share it with the homeless and the less fortunate, the organisers had invited the likes of ymca - homeless shelters - refugee camps - and various hostels, as well as various mp's and the mayor.
The Iftar - or 'breaking', takes place at the time muslims would be opening fast, as it is the holy month of ramadan it encourages people to share, give more to those who have less, and resist temptations, Everyone was invited regardless of age or ethnicity.
The initiative was made by a small group of young men and women from Leicester.

The Christian guys who do the soup runs are great and I have spent some time with them in the past. I also know some of the Muslim community in Leicester. Its great to see them working together. The Homeless will need lots of help this winter, with the economy in such a state. Plus those in Hostels and in difficult situations still will need a hand getting enough food and warmth. I hope all communities in Leicester continue this quest for empathy with the poor in Leicester.

That was really kind of them to do that, we do something similar but certainly not as big, the Pakistani community people cook or buy a bunch of food and we give it to the homeless. It's always nice to see people thinking about others instead of themselves. Now sadly Ramadhan is almost over and Eid is approaching, but I will still continue to give back, hopefully you will too.
