I served as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 2 years in southern Peru. Missionary service is not a paying job; it is completely voluntary and costs about $10,000. A mission for the LDS Church consists of devoting 100% of one's time and energy to teaching the restored gospel of Christ and serving God's children.
