MIAGI -- MUSIC IS A GREAT INVESTMENT 'Uniting the Power of Classical, Indigenous and Jazz' http://www.miagi.co.za-- is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2001 with the support of the South African Department of Arts and Culture.

The MIAGI education network, of which the MIAGI Youth BigBand is a flagship project, consists of initiatives from all around the country, in particular those active in rural and historically disadvantaged areas. Many of the present members have developed through the past eleven years of MIAGI investment. Consisting of a highly representative cross-section of South African youth, all young players can apply and are selected on merit alone. There is no cost to individual participants.

Since 2008, MIAGI is the South African National Member Section of Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI). JMI is a global network organisation promoting the advancement of youth music all over the world http://www.jmi.net.
