If its hard to believe how can Universal sign a contract with a just 22 something guy only on the basis of his short film, then just watch Amblin. I saw it a few days back. You must see it believe the class and brilliance of Spielberg in his first short film itself. His class could be seen in every aspect of the movie.
If you had actually watched "Amblin'" you would already know that it's a film about two hitch-hikers who form a bond on the road and travel to the beach together.
One of the best short films ever made, no doubt influenced by Antonioni's "Zabriskie Point".
