Testing the idle adjustment of the ThunderMax with autotune, I set the Idle as low as that to make a test; it works perfectly, charge is 14.3 Volts...Engine Wobbles a lot more though, but it is more "Harleyish" I only need to know if oil pressure is good; if it is then I will leave it like that. Surely engine temp will be lower in slow traffic.

  • What model hardstreets are those and what mounts are you using?

  • Dear p51bombay, the hardcases I had on my bike are Harley and designed ONLY for the DYNA.

I like your bike!! Best regards,

Look in the HD accessories page for the Dyna

  • Hi Harry,

By all means do the IAC auto and let the engine warm up to 270 or at least till the IAC has been adjusted. Two more things, make sure you have the latest software and also contact ThunderMax so they give you the best map to start with.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

By the way, I now have my CVO Springe 2008 set at 592 rpm and it idles sweet as ever.

  • How did you set the idle ?

  • Dear Ratridez,

It is quite simple to adjust the idle by modifying the module settings with the aid of the SmartLink program installed on your pc.

You enter the MODULE MAIN SETTINGS and there you have IDLE SPEED. You can set that figure to anything you like, but I have found that fuel injected 2006-2008 do not like to idle below 400 rpm. I have both my bikes now idling at 600-640. The temperature of the engine is kept then well below standard EFI powered Harleys

  • Oil may be an issue so put a high flow filter on.

  • I lowered mine to 800 or so, and the battery did not charge. I have it set to 976, and all is good. I don't think it sounds good that low anyway. It just sounds like a poorly tuned twinkie.

  • hey, love what your doing...I want to do the same but dealer warns not to lower idle below 950rpm (stock motor) - mine is an 88B - two reasons...#1 idling lower than this causes piston oil jet starvation which leads to premature piston/cylinder wear and #2 low RPM EFI will drain battery over time. Problem? If this is true why are so many doing this lowering (successfully it seems - eg. see all of JAPAN) and why does Zipper's say their tests show you can safely lower it to 750RPM. Who's right?

  • Looks like a factory HD accessory.

  • did the IAC auto, idles alittle better, but not as good as yours, l'll give it a bit of time to auto tune, then see what happens. thank you for your advice.

  • who sells that speedo/tacho gauge, its awesome. cannot locate one in OZ.

  • nice gauge
