Jesus of Montreal - Opening

Pergolesi's Stabat Mater - Inflammatus et Accensus in the opening credits of the wonderful film by director Denys Arcand.

Not as conventional as it may first appear, the movie is delightfully witty and truly thought-provoking.

Earned numerous awards including the Prix du Jury at 1989 Cannes Film Festival, Genie Award for Best Canadian Film of 1989 and was nominated for the 1989 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Cast includes: Lothaire Bluteau, Robert Lepage, Rémy Girard.

Jesus of Montréal is a great, albeit unknown, movie, and I think so without being a Christian.

Probably one of the best Canadian film I've ever seen. I saw this film about 10 years ago as a late night movie. I was simply mezmerized by the intensity and the depth it created. On par with Jesus Christ Superstar - and very moving.

I walked out of the theatre and beelined it to Tower Records, bought Pergolesi and became a collector of obscure Sacred Choral Works. That was 20 years ago. Powerful movie.
