The cinema is open to the public on two days a year when they have a tour and the organ is played and a film is shown of the opening day in 1936. gracie Firelds opened it along with a load of other stars of the time. It's huge inside. Such a pity it can't be kept as a concert hall. An African looney born again "Christian" church has bought it. It should have been bought by the nation. So many stars have played there including the Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatr

I have never been inside the Gaumont State in Kilbirn, but it looks beautiful in your Video. I do hope that the new owners look after it and retain its lovely Art Deco style and its unique Wurlitzer organ, which I believe, had to be specially constructed to fit into a rather small area. The Organists seat was almost the size of a Bicycle Saddle !!

I used to go regularly to this magnificent cinema for organ concerts when it still showed films and I just can`t describe the thrill I got every time the WurliTzer console rose spinning from the side of the stage. To lose this fine organ is unthinkable and I sincerely hope that the building and the organ will remain united for many years to come.
