Three years ago Gurkha veterans and their families won the right to settle in the UK.

Aldershot MP Gerald Howarth caused controversy last week, when he said the settled Gurkha community should be more dispersed.

Around 9000 are now living in the Aldershot area, which local people say is putting a strain on services.

British Forces News has been to Folkestone, home of the Royal Gurkha Rifles, to see how the Nepalese community there is settling in.

I don't understand why Britons are so much against these harmless community instead go and see, Bradford, southhall, Manchester to realise

  • Why is the reporter calling it a success ? Have the indigenous residents of the town had a referendum asking is they want to be swamped by another ethinic group who are supposedly here to enrich us. Of course, it's great success for the nepalese coming to a first world country where they receive free housing, health-care, education, interpreters, a grant for this & a grant for that. Joanne Lumbley get your wallet out.

  • any one who picks up a rifle and fights for this country has the right to live here.....the end

  • @561indra gurkhas need to return home and contribute in nepal building. not living in uk as 2nd class, 3rd class citizens and mercenary soldiers. seriously when will these gurkhas gonna wake up from just becoming killing machine for the british.

  • @Indra: You are absolutely right. However, we have a very bad tendency of flocking the same place as if there are no other better places in the UK. I understand the psychology behind this to some extent and I'm sure there are intelligent people amongst us who also know it well and can make a difference. It isn't too late yet to work on it so that we can have a better integrated society which will have nothing but good outcomes to offer.

  • thas not fair.. if you think aldershot is crowded than wat about shouthall? that place is full on indian (no offence to indian's they are gud people) just giving example. Nothing is happening to that place.

  • Should they learn English before coming here? no racism meant.

  • The Gurkhas; The Bravest of the Brave
