Three years have passed and these images still haunt me. Flooding was worse than wind damage. A 12-foot tidal surge flooded us from the bay when the eye passed the island. A small levee around the backside of the island would have saved 40,000 homes from being flooded. We've tried for years to get the City build a levee but they are too short-sighted. Today's storm surge is tomorrow's high tide! At least the surf get good once in a while. Check out my video from 37th Street!

I'm a Native Houstonian but I lived in Seabrook, TX at the time. My fiance and I left for Austin a day before the hurricane hit and we watched all the weather reports and footages on the storm. When I got back home, I was not able to return to my apt for a week. When I finally did, miraculously nothing happened to my very unit. All surrounding units and buildings were damaged in some way. I live in NE TX now and worry about the tornadoes.

For the first time in years I went down to Galveston last summer. And let me tell you i was devastated. Everything was gone, I have been going down there since I was a child. I cried b/c it wasnt the same as I remembered it. I hope Galveston County rebuilds.
