@ciscotie Actually Jackie had made the decision to retire about half way through the season and the US GP was his last anyway. :)

Stewart was behind Cevert when the crash happened. they had been practicing
together. Jackie claimed that Cevert's car became airborne long enough that Cevert
couldn't set-up for the turn over the tunnel. a very sad weekend!

A very sad Grand Prix. François Cevert died here this year.....

This is the very same Grand Prix race where previously in a practice session, Francois Cevert was killed in his Tyrrell car, thus Jackie Stewart witdrew from the race in loyal mourn to his beloved friend and teammate. Jackie never drove again in formula 1.
