Gustav Loenhardt is the greatest living master of conservative harpsichord performance. There are many great artists for the instrument but very few and none as revered as this man.. Visit the University of Albany's HPSCHD listserv and bring up Leonhardt's name, to a man/woman we bow to his artistry.

Harpsichord music is unique because the accustics of this family of instrument is still not properly understood. Such as its expressiveness throgh resonance and reverbration is so exculsive that todays specialists need to pay special attention to expoit the characteristics of harpsichord, the most simple fact is that the way of touch. Gustav Leonhardt is the single master who really understand how to touch the keyboard of the harpsichords.

To get an idea how far off from real Baroque playing this is,simply go to the YouTube video..."Ca.1830 English Barrel Organ"..which sounds like every other direct evidence we have of the 18th century from French court cembalist Claude Balbastre(b.1727) forward.
This playing with the exception of ornaments is totally modern...and therefore strangely obtuse.
