Rob and his co-workers take time from their busy work day to write and sing songs about cigarettes!! I'm sure that happens occasionally in offices all around the country...
Lucky they weren't smoking Kents about 5 years earlier. When Kent came out with it's micronite filter in the early 50's, they used a very nasty form of asbestos fiber in them! Within 5 years everyone smoking Kents regularly started having breathing problems, and the company quietly switched to something less lethal in their filters. Too late for the Kent fans, by the 60's many of them were dying.
Both Dick and Mary were havy smokers in the 60s, Mary quit I think, I don't know if Dick quit or not. But I think they both stopped drinking. I KNOW Mary did.
This was an "integrated" commerical seen at the end of most episodes that Lorillard Tobacco [Kent] sponsored on alternate Wednesdays during the 1964-'65 season {Procter & Gamble was the show's primary sponsor}...following this was the sponsor I,.D. {"'THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW' was presented by- KENT, with the famous 'Micronite filter'...KENT SATISFIES BEST!"}.

Before I stopped smoking, I used to smoke Kents. They were pretty good cigarettes.
