This is a small video that show the differences between a Thai recast and a good recast for those of you not able to buy an actual original kit from Yahoo! Japan.

Also if you are looking to buy one, I recommend this 2 sites that have great to excellent quality recasts:

Based in California USA: www.hobbyfan.com

Based in Hong Kong: www.e2046.com
Although they are in HK, they send everything out via registered mail and it gets to you quick, well at least for me, I have not had any problems, I normally get my gk's in 10 days or less.

Stay away from www.homemedia4u.com, they also sell crappy Thai recasts, I have only heard horror stories from people who have bought from them.

Check out my website for great blog posts, Gallery pics from my work, WIPS, commission info and much more!

  • this is a stupid question: I've been checking out e2046 for a minute but only recently had the outrageous idea of attempting to do a gk... do you have any tips for a beginners toolbox, what all will I need to buy aside from the gk of course.... preferred painting instruments and other tools, etc.... any help would be greatly appreciated :D

  • @shomazta Not at all, I actually have a section of beginners tools on my website, you can check it out and get an idea of what to buy :D

  • Is modelkitonline a reliable site? They have some figure I absolutely adore and can't find anywhere, but they're based in Thailand....

  • @funGODfun I would stay away from any thai distributors, they all mostly use fillers and not a lot of resin, that's why in my experience over the years, I've noticed that a lot and that's the main cause of why those kits are so troublesome to work on... try E2046 or hobbyfan :)

  • well you could try getting a dremel tool to cut excess hard flash with one of the cutters or even with the round sand toold, the exacto knife will not even harm that hard stuff so you can't actually use that to get excess flash off.
