In the Heat of the Night

In the Heat of the Night is a television series based on the motion picture, In the Heat of the Night, that ran from 1988 to 1995. It starred Carroll O'Connor as William Gillespie and Howard Rollins as Virgil Tibbs. Tibbs had traveled to the Sparta area for his mother's funeral. He was persuaded to remain by the city government, who had felt the need to make the city's police department more diverse.

This is proof of how versatile of an actor the late, great Carroll O'Connor was.

He went from playing a bigot (Archie Bunker) to someone in an interracial marriage (Sheriff Bill Gillespie).

One of the best tv shows ever. It was a instant favorite of mine from the first night it aired. Carroll O'Connor was as good as they come in this role. It's just a shame that so many of the cast members are gone now, a few tragically and way before their time.

You are correct. I believe "In the Heat of the Night" is on WGN America weekdays from 11am-12pm and 12pm-1pm Eastern Standard Time.
