The 2008 Olympic gold winning Thai boxer Somjit Jongjohor visited British International School in Phuket on Wednesday, to be greeted by eager primary level students and was introduced by teachers Mr. Daryl and Master Jay and a mascot called Buzz, & 3 young demonstration boxers.
Somjit came to show some tips in exercising and warm up for boxing to the students
One of the demonstration boxers & student, Jake, showed how to duck and weave with Somjit, then the students tried it.
Jake told us later that he likes boxing and Somjit.
Joe, a minor junior champion, demonstrated some punches.
After the first session, Somjit signed autographs for the kids, even on their hands.
He also answered some questions from the kids.
Somjit later told us in Thai that he liked the kids and wants to encourage Thai boxing for them. He believes that boxing can help kids protect themselves. He does not think boxing is dangerous, because it has rules. Kids can start boxing from 10 years up.
He won five fights in Beijing Olympics easily on August 23 shown on NBT TV. He said he won for everybody in Thailand but he wants to give his gold medal to His Majesty the King later on.
Shea, a young girl student, also enjoyed learning some boxing skills as she told us:
Lets hope these kids are inspired to train and try more sports for future Olympics. This is student intern Kate, reporting for Andaman News on NBT TV.
