The overall goal of the new laws is to get you to buy a new vehical. and its not enviromentally sound. Emissions generated from manufactureing of a single prius is over fifty times more than a late model vehical would emit in a life time of use. Its more enviromentally sound to encurage reusing older vehicals, rather than build new ones. The current emission laws exist only to encuraging automotive sells under the guise of being good for the enviroment.

  • being a mechanic, i see nothing wrong with cheating on emissions for late model vehicals.. Considering some state emission standards (CA for example) are out right stupid and born out of corruption. Late model vehicals had never been designed for current level standards, and vary expensive to retrofit to modern systems (also most aftermarket parts are also illegal in CA).
