Simulation. Using DC straight 192 kHz sound card, Audio in Left Channel, 48 kHz modulated AM carrier in right channel. Tektronix 465 Oscilloscope in X-Y mode.

  • Fleetwood Mac - The Chain, from the "Rumors" album. The video starts about 02:48 into the song (right at the breakdown, before the bass solo starts).

  • The X-Y trapezoid is a method of testing and calibrating an AM radio transmitter. You connect the audio to Input A, and the sample RF output to Input B. With the scope in X-Y mode, if your edges are straight lines, and the left edge never closes to a point, you're doing great! If your diagonal lines are moving around, the transmitter is not maintaining the integrity of the audio signal.
