SOLDIERS from the 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire)will through Chester city centre at 1pm
About 300 soldiers including the Band of the Mercian Regiment will march from The Castle to St Werburgh Street where the Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr John Ebo, and Brigadier John Thomson will take the salute. Last year the 1st Battalion was given the Freedom of the City.
Drivers are being warned that there will be traffic delays in the city centre while the parade makes its way up Bridge Street, Northgate Street, into Werburgh Street, Eastgate Street, up to The Cross, down Bridge Street, Castle Street and back to The Castle.
The march is expected to last about 90 minutes.
The band will also march through Ellesmere Port town centre on Friday to commemorate the Freedom of the Borough bestowed on the Battalion last year.
At Civic Way the Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Tony Sherlock, will take the salute alongside Brigadier Thomson.
The soldiers and band will march from Wellington Road car park at 11am before turning into Cambridge Road, passing along Whitby Road and along Civic Way, turning right onto Wellington Road and right onto Stanney Lane. At the traffic lights the march will turn right into Whitby Road until it reaches Cambridge Road and finishes in Wellington Road car park. The march is expected to last half an hour. Drivers are being warned that there will be traffic delays and that Cambridge Road will be closed for a very short time.
