  • Peter, there IS a Finale here - check to the right - "Related Videos" - it's Part III. Due to YT policies I have to "cut" the whole performance to the smaller parts...

  • @Lukecash12 and this video proves that Richter was right...

  • best

  • I heard from my piano teacher (from Moscow), that Sofronitsky would go out on stage (mind you, he never performed in big halls, only small ones) clutching to the wall, he couldn't even hold himself up because of the nervousness. Apparently...he would sit down, and almost black out, lose consciousness....but then heaven like this would start... ;) and he called Richter a "genius", and Richter in turn called him a "god" :) ...funny

  • @ilovescarlatti When Sofronitzky called Richter a prince, Richter called him a god.

  • If you mean that he doesn't toss accents about, and play with extravagant rubato, then I don't have a problem with him playing Schumann that way, sir.

  • I love Sofronitsky !!!!! ... I don't know if he beat Richtere and Ghilels but he has been a fantastic musician, before to be a superb pianist ............ do you agree?

  • He beat Gilels and Richter together!

  • I though in the theme he did not sustain a tempo well enough but besides that very good

  • yrs, that's what a lot of people called his performance of these Etudes. I have not heard this recording in about 25 years, and it is just as much of a marvel to me now as it was when I was 16 and heard it on a Mleodia LP... Even people who called this "sofronicheskie etudy" gave him his due.

Cheers! I'll be looking for a cd of this (so far have not found it)
