I have had (and of course still currently deal with) bulimia and anorexia yet I have never been abused. So this explanation does not apply to all.

I agree with this. my body wanted me to thow up at age 7. I didn't find out until 20 years later that I'm allergic to milk and wheat and that is where my ED source comes from.
disassociative disorder was a way for me to cope by using the ED to cover up who I am. It does feel like a safe place for me. who knows.
