Would You Donate Your Body to Science?

I've donated my body to science for many reasons. The first and most important one is so my children will not be forced into placing flowers on a grave I don't believe I'm in. The money won't be spent on funeral cost and my dead body may help someone else in need. It isn't helping anyone buried under the ground.

This seems to be the only searchable video on youtube referencing the show "Horizons: how much is your dead body worth". That show seemed to be very "pro organ donation" however much of the show covered illegal activities that funeral homes have engaged in as seemingly legitimate 'Tissue Brokers" which IMO kinda makes organ donation a business a for profit. Reminds me of an Aldous Huxley novel. I personally won't donate because places like Proton Down, Building 12-7 and Fort Detrick exist.

@gkitty37 Pretty much the same process happens to donated bodies that happens to other bodies. You should read the book "Stiff" by Mary Roach. She explains different processes that can happen. Nearly all scientists and students are supervised and are respectful of the bodies, as required by law. They are very grateful that people donate their bodies without asking for anything in return. You are essentially their teacher. I wouldn't be worried about that. (:

This has been on my mind a lot lately. I want to donate to science for many reason's. I am Muslim and Quran says that killing one person is like killing all of humanity, but saving one person is like saving all of humanity. If the study of my body could save just one, then it would be worth it. Also, it would save my family the terrible burden of paying for my funeral. My only worry is that my body will not be respected.

it makes me scared to think what would happen to my body if i ever donated it to science, what i mean is, i wouldnt really like to be cut open and tested on with needles and that, in my head i get a horrid thought. i don't know im don't think i would feel comfortable by doing that, so i will just have to see i suppose =)

I've always been between organ donation and donation to science, but I think I've decided on organ donation. I feel like I'm taking something away from my family if my body is taken away from them and sent to a med school when I die. I know it will be taken away anyway...but it seems different somehow. With donation the organs are taken soon after you die, then it's done. Despite myths about doctors "pulling the plug" faster on organ donors because they want their organs, I think I'll register.

I've donated my body to neuroscience, respectively, after I die.
I've always been interested in science, anatomy & wish I'd had the opportunity to become a dr. of either. Hopefully, my donation will serve many, to Learn.
It's an exciting time for science & medicine..etc. Glad to be a small part.
Good video!

i think i would like to donate, but what happends to your body? I would like to donate my body, because i know that i could save somebodys' life in the future. My family would have to approve, but they would make a good use of the money.

@drak1212 Hmm. So it'd be better to donate organs then?
EMZ=]
Many schools do allow funerals before they use the body. The body is mostly used to practice on, so that students don't screw up when they have to work on a living person. Most schools will cremate the body for free afterwards and give it to the family, or bury it for free. It will ask these questions on the donation form.

I'm going to donate my body to science, same with my mom once she dies; even though she doesn't agree with it she's really gullible and will believe about any myth if it comes from someone. Once we're dead we have no use for our bodies anymore, it's best to give it to science or any place that will be productive with it.
