Prof. Roald Hoffmann Nobel Laureate, USA, Visit to Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Delhi Campus
Knowledge is like money: the more one gets, the more one craves for it. This aptly defines the feelings of all present to welcome and interact with Prof. Roald Hoffmann. Prof. Roald Hoffmann Nobel Laureate, USA, came to Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Institute of Management and Research, New Delhi on 7 December, 2010 during his visit to India. He has received many of the honors in his profession, including the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his pioneering work in the field of "Applied Theoretical Chemistry". His lecture on 'Chemistry's Essential Tensions' was an enlightening experience of learning through fun. During his lecture, he moved smoothly from art to medical research before any one could sense that he was talking about Chemistry. He spoke on the subject in such a simple manner that everyone was amused to know that Chemistry could be so simple. He ended with a message to all the research scholars to be creative and remain a learner throughout the life. The audience got a glimpse of his creative genius when he recited one of his several poems that he has composed.
Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Vice Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune presented him with a memento for his outstanding contribution in the field of Chemistry. He thanked Prof. Roald Hoffmann for his gracious presence in the Institute. He also stressed that this interaction will help the university reach new heights at the International front and bring more laurels to the University.
After his lecture, there was an interactive session with research scholars, academicians and faculty from Department of Chemistry, Delhi University, University of Cape Town, Delhi School of Professional Studies etc. and Corporate like Jubilant Life Sciences.
The other dignitaries present on this occasion were Prof. M.D. Tiwari, President, Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi and Prof. Beena Shah, Secretary General, AIU.
Dr. Sachin S. Vernekar, Director, Bharati Vidyapeeth University Educational Complex, Delhi Campus, thanked the distinguished audience for gracing the occasion. The Felicitation function was covered by various news channels like DD News, Living India, UNI TV and newspapers like Hindustan Times, The Hindu and others.
