An Accordion Hallelujah

Well, I suppose it has been said before... That Leonard Cohen is a genius songwriter. But everyone who sings his songs should probably say it again. What an amazing, beautiful, bitter song this is, and what a rich, powerful, compelling story, which is why I wanted to sing it.

There is a part near the end of this one where he says, Even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of Song... Well, he is the Lord of Song, isn't he?! (Thats why I sang that line twice. I love that line.) This one, for the master himself, with apology for all the static, (I am a terrible sound technician), and for changing some of the rhythms... But my accordion and voice are persnickety beasts. This is my second video featuring the Baby Hohnica, (the other being, Seasons in the Sun), and though she is altogether a less satisfying instrument than the great beast, Opa, she has a sweeter sound, in recordings, and is softer, so I do not have to add an extra vocal track. (Although now I wish I'd sung straight into the mic.)

This also for all my youtube friends who continue to put out not only such amazing music, but amazing performances too, so that it always inspires me. And to all the wonderful singers on Idol who sweat bullets each week for their songs. (I borrow the critiques afterwards and use them for my own songs!) Maybe Randy would call me dawg, and maybe Ellen would say I was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, or the best flavor at Baskin and Robbins, and maybe Kara would say I'd put my own stamp on it, girl, and maybe Simon would say I'd made myself contemprary and relevant, but that I had pulled some pretty strange faces, but I was, therefore, at least not forgettable.=)

p.s. Oh, dear. This is a scary one. I have some stiff competition on this internet with this song. KD Lang, Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainright, Allison Crowe, Sheryl Crow, Jon Bon Jovi, and more... Oh! Not to mention, LC himself!! Yikes.=)

Plus, p.s... This is my third Leonard Cohen song! I also have Suzanne and Famous Blue Raincoat up. I do kind of like those songs.=)
