Jeffersonian Democracy and the "Message" of Hunt Library

Speaking at the launch of the NCSU Libraries' "Everything you can imagine . . . and more" fundraising initiative for the new James B. Hunt Jr. Library, Dean Marvin Malecha of the NC State University College of Design makes some fascinating observations about how Thomas Jefferson envisioned the architecture of the library at the University of Virginia as a very concrete and real symbol of democracy at work in the United States.

According to Dean Malecha, the Hunt Library now under construction on Centennial Campus promises to embody the same message. As the heart of this productive research campus, Hunt Library will be both an enabler of and monument to the centrality of research and learning as a generator of wealth and opportunity for the people of North Carolina and for the future of NC State University.

The James B. Hunt Jr. Library promises to be nothing less than the best learning and collaboration space in the country.
