Are you able to unlock the drivers door from within the car without using the "lever"? Maybe by using the Lock/Unlock switch on the panel attached to the door? If not, I could image the issue to be related to the (vacuum?) mechanism to unlock the drivers door...

Hi!
I'm not sure about the cause, but did you try changing your keys battery? I presume it's cheaper to give it a try than to drive to your vendor/Toyota ...
