Mazeppa (1851) written by Franz Liszt recorded in the Theatre of Lviv Philharmonic and performed by Anastacia Tolstonog in december 2009.

Mazeppa is the fourth of the twelve transcendental etudes Liszt wrote during his tenure as Grand Ducal Director of Music Extraordinary at Weimar. All twelve works are dedicated to Princess Carolyne Sayn-Wittgenstein.

  • Actually, this is not the Symphonic Poem, this is his 4th Transcendental Etude. The Symphonic Poem was based on this Etude (which in it's early form was published when Liszt was very young). There exists a piano transcription of the symphonic poem version, but this is not it.
