I was one of the few lucky ones to be a Beta testing for Spinals iMenu (beta3), so I thought I'll just do a video to show some of the features that are 'new' to it

iMenu is an alternative homebrew menu that replaces the default DSTwo menu, commonly known as the 'plugin' menu, with something that resembles a iPhone/iPad screen

iMenu Download: http://spinalcode.co.uk/index.php/projects/consoles/imenu/
iMenu Guide: http://gbatemp.net/t260979-imenu-step-by-step-set-up-tutorial?
'special' SNES emulator: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XEDYO74W

PLEASE NOTE: Some feature may change in the final release of iMenu_b3

UPDATE: 21/04/2011 - due to unforseen circumstances iMenu is no longer avaliable @ Spinals site (yep it's down again)
- He has though given permission for mirrors to be allowed ONLY (for the time being that is) at

  • Can you change the logos for the GBA, SNES, GAMEBOY icons coz I've seen videos where the icons are slightly different. I don't know what versions they were though, that might have something to do with it. :S

  • @FibrousAcquiescence the icons in imenu are all 'custom made'

If you follow the link to the 'iMenu guide', you'll find links to 'packs' of icons - & there's even a guide (by me) on how to make your own

  • @CannonFoddr Oh I see.Thank you for your patience. Btw, by 'special' SNES emulator do you simply mean another one that can run on the DSTWO? Or is there something different about it?

  • @FibrousAcquiescence : With the Official SNES emulator (from the developers) you HAVE to select the game you want to play from a file selector each time you run the Emulator.

Since the programming code for this emulator was released as 'open source' - some1 managed to modify the code with something called 'ARG()' (see the iMenu guide thread for more details - right down the bottom)

It's this 'special' SNES emulator I was referring to - called CATSFC

  • @CannonFoddr Ahhh gotcha..I think. So basically you can create little icons that sit on the menu which you click once to launch games? No need for multiple button presses and menu screens? That's cool. Basically shortcut buttons you mean? Or have I completely misunderstood you? lol

  • @FibrousAcquiescence nope - you've got it

  • @CannonFoddr That would be amazing, since I never really saw the need for this whole two menu-ting. I would love to see everything included in the iMenu.

but right now I`m very pleased with the menu and with the Sonic-16bit-theme it looks damn sexy :D

  • @SonicShenmue : Not promising anything - BUT there MIGHT be a way of running commerical ROMs from iMenu in the future

Since the video was made - the company that makes the DSTwo flashcard has recently updated it's firmware (in fact as of 11-03-11) to include a function called 'AutoRunLastRom',some people have been 'experimenting' with this new feature to try & run commercial games....

.. how long it'll take before a solution is made & if Spinal includes this into iMenu - I don't know

  • I really wished there wouldn`t be a completely different menu for DS games...

Starting games from the iMenu would be really nice but I guess that`s not possible. Still a very nice menu, since the original one is also kinda slow...

  • Yes it does work on a DSLite, in fact if the DSTwo card works on the games system then imenu works - so that covers the DSLite, DS 'Phat', DSi and DSi XL (& rumors state also the new 3DS)

As for special SNES - it is in fact a modified version of BAGSFC, so it has the same compatibility.. there is also news of one called CATSFC which also appears to have better compatibility - which can also be used instead
