The Windshield Wiper Forehand has become the "go to" shot for most pros on the professional tennis tour. The forehand is recognizable by the follow through. After the player hits the tennis ball, the racket and arm turn over sort of like a windshield wiper blade. If you're looking to play high-level tennis, it's very important to learn how to hit this forehand. It allows you to hit with both tremendous spin and power, permitting you to play consistent yet aggressive tennis.

  • can somebody tell me what`s the best grip to hit the windshield wiper?

  • No "best grip" but the WW motion becomes easier the more extreme your grip gets. However, extreme grips can make it difficult to learn how to swing through the ball. So there can be a trade-off.

  • What's the grip of Windshield?

  • you can use any acceptable forehand grip

  • You have to remember to wipe after you extend your arm after you hit the shot. If you wipe instantly after contact, it'll create a sidespin ball that's short.

  • You can't be much of a tennis player with that remark!

  • Should we turn our wrist to do the Windshield Wiper Forehand ?

  • hey will,

what level do you play at?

  • ww same as top spin ?

  • Topspin is simply generated by getting below the ball and swinging at an upward angle with a vertical racquet face. Topsipn creates a differnce in air pressure from one side of the ball to the other forcing the ball into the court. Topspin is a function of racquet speed and swinging anlge angle. If you want to increase your topspin then just increase the speed and upward angle. There is no need for this inefficient movement. Plus I'm willing to bet this movement could cause forearm injury

  • i prefer to finish my windshield wiper with my raquet facing horizantal with the ground

  • @JoshuaMari relax your wrist, i used to get the same thing then wen i began to relax it stopped hurting. don't try to contro your raquet to do a windshield wiper, but let your raquet naturally whip around you

  • I hurt my wrist doing a windshield wiper. What should I do to prevent my wrist from getting injured?

  • @FYB2007 this is a huge help thank you for all of your videos - i was practicing this against the wall and was only doing a 1/4 turn or just facing the wall while hitting and i noticed you were saying to turn sideways with the racket pulled back pointing to the fence - would this be to impart more topspin on the ball via having more trunk rotation ?and also having more of a follow through - i noticed by follow through was more limited with only doing the 1/4 turn.

    thanks Will !

  • im still confused on how to do this

  • I suppose that one shouldn't move the wrist during the WW FH. I was under the impression that one had to forcefully turn one's wrist but I see from your video that it's all arm movement.
