Welcome to the REAL first part of my eleventh ever PEMNAS series (Part 0 was just a preview of sorts). This month's game is the Nintendo 64 port of the horrifying sequel to the Survival Horror smash-hit by Capcom, Resident Evil 2! In the best possible quality presented, with the Expansion Pak and recorded through S-Video!

Set two months after the events of RE, Claire has lost contact of her older brother, Chris Redfield, who was one of the remaining survivors a bizarre mansion incident located at the outskirts of Raccoon City, so she ventures to the city to find him. Meanwhile, a rookie police officer by the name of Leon S. Kennedy, arrives at the city only to find it infested with zombies! Both Claire and Leon encounter each other at a bar after the latter saves her from being eaten by a zombie. They both escape in Leon's police car, when they are suddenly startled by a hiding zombie and proceed to crash. Suddenly AGAIN, a runaway truck crashes into the police car, prompting the two exit the vehicle, but are now separated of each other thanks to the explosion caused by the truck. Claire now must head to what would seem to be the safest place in the city, the Raccoon Police Department.

The Nintendo 64 version is known for, at the time, its technological breakthrough in inserting two PlayStation CDs worth of (redundant) date in a 512Mbit/64MB cartridge. This port also features some additional exclusive content, including a new control scheme (dubbed "First Person Controls") an Item Randomizer, a Violence Adjuster, and Blood Color Adjuster. But of course, for the last two you would always want the maximum amount of violence, and pure red blood, right!? Other features include new costumes made by Angel Studios, the developer that ported RE2 to N64 alongside Capcom, and the new, detailed EX Files.

I understand that there exist a LOT of Resident Evil 2 playthroughs and videos, but at the same time there's not a lot of good quality videos of the N64 version. However, I just got the game for dirt cheap, so I thought I might as well record myself playing through it and offer my commentary on if just for the heck of it. Not the spoken kind of commentary (thank god for us all), more like annotations that will consist of nerd trivia, jokes, personal reflection on certain parts, pointing out oddities, opinions, and more!

Stay tuned, this might be the biggest and longest PEMNAS series yet!

Hope you enjoy. =) Also, PEMNAS stands for "PLEASE EXCUSE MY NOOB ASS SKILLS". I invented the term myself.

  • Can someone answer me something. Is resident evil 3 set before Resident Evil 2? I can't remember. The reason I ask is at 8:40 in this video when Clair goes down them steps outside of the police station there is a zombie who is wearing a yellow vest and green pants. This looks a lot like the guy who was killed by Nemesis when you first get to the police station in RE3. So am guessing RE3 is set before RE2?

  • @ocelot20 The guy killed was Brad Vickers, the same dude who piloted the Helicopter in RE1... and left the STARS team to fend for themselves at the Spencer Mansion. =/

Resident Evil 2 occurs in the middle of RE3, specifically a day after Jill is infected with a virus at the Clock Tower after fighting Nemesis, and two days before she awakens after Carlos administers the vaccine to her. I hope that makes sense.

  • i have my n64 still but am missin the part that goes to the back on the n64 to the back of tv =( does any one one were i can get it ?//

  • @boxing2289nymx A/V cables (the ones with white, red, and yellow)? Try eBay. Easy to find and use since the SNES, N64, and GameCube consoles use them.

  • Does RE2 need Expansion Pack, or is it optional? Please, tell me.

  • @Kdarkov It's optional. But, off the top of my head as I type this, I frankly don't know the precise noticeable benefits the E-Pak gives to the game aside from the increased resolution.
